The limited messer SPES, designed to extend the SPES offer, is made of 50HF steel and intended for various types of HEMA training. Its shape refers to the European messer from the turn of the 15th and 16th centuries.

This steel simulator can be used by both women and men to learn past HEMA techniques. Perfect for training, e.g. in retro style with Dueling gloves, FG gambeson or Light 350N pants. This simulator is designed for right-handed people.

On the front, at the base of the blade, it has a special inscription "• SPES •". The handle is made of a blue-dyed flexible material that resembles wood in its texture.

It widens at the end, giving a firm support to the hand holding it. The lining is riveted to the spindle of the handle. In addition, it is covered by a crossguard with a transverse bolt. The blade is finished with a punta. The blade of the messer has medium stiffness (48-50 HRC) and narrows at the end.

Messer SPES Blue belongs to the steel simulators of the "Blue" series. All these products are characterized by high quality and individual approach to the project. By choosing one of them, you can be sure that your equipment will be durable and made of the best materials.

  • each messer comes with a diploma that emphasizes its originality
  • remember that this type of equipment should be used when training against simulators with similar properties (materials used, hardness, etc.). By following this rule, your messer will have a longer life, and you will be able to enjoy it for much longer

Old-Polish meaning of langes messer

According to the Old-Polish Encyclopedia by Zygmunt Gloger, messer sword came to Poland from the West. It gained much more respect than dagger, which was perceived as dastardly, disgraceful for a knight. Messer sword was seen as a decent sword, proper both for riding and walking knights. Author gives few 16th and 17th century maxims on a messer, and the most proper underlines the difference between messer and a sabre – the first one is for combat, while the second one is better as a decoration for clothing.

Handle of SPES messer sword for HEMA

Handle of our long knife is based on the sword of a guard visible on bas-relief on the base of Holy Sepulchre altar from Church of St. Peter and St. Paul in Obernai, France. It is dated on the turn of 15th and 16th century.
