Plaid Meets HEMA? Why Not! Testing a New Patterned Fabric
We’re always exploring new ways to make our products more exciting – not just in how they look, but also in how they let you express yourself. Our custom projects are all about giving you the freedom to play with conventions, mix styles, and create something truly personal.
Today, a quick peek at one of our latest experiments.
Plaid – A Pattern with a Story
Plaid has been around for centuries (maybe even millennia). It's a design that ties together traditional Scottish kilts, lumberjack shirts, and even those retro blazers from 1960s American car dealerships. It can be sharp and elegant – or rugged and workwear-inspired. And we were curious: how would it fit into the world of HEMA?
A Different Kind of Plaid
At first glance, plaid seems simple – just a matter of how threads are woven. But our version was created differently. Like all our patterned fabrics, this one is printed, not woven – which gives us more control over the final look.
We used three types of areas: black (base fabric color), white (fully printed), and black-and-white (diagonal lines, printed at 50%). The result? A convincing illusion of a woven structure – exactly the effect we were aiming for.
Prototypes in the Workshop
The pattern and colorway we're showing today is just a prototype. The final version will be black and red – probably the most iconic type of plaid, instantly calling to mind flannel shirts and classic workwear. But since we had a few meters of the black-and-white sample on hand, we couldn’t resist putting it to the test.
The outcome: a one-of-a-kind AP with plaid sleeves, and Locust pants with one plaid leg. These are truly one-offs – we won’t be producing more of the white plaid, so if they show up in our outlet… well, you know the drill: first come, first served! ?
What’s Next?
Stay tuned – our final red-and-black plaid is coming soon to the regular lineup. And we've already got ideas for how to use it in future custom drops. It’s going to be ?.
